The Vertical Meadow Story
A word from our founder
As an engineer at Arup for 15 years, I’ve been involved in some of the world’s most exciting projects in both design and construction, such as the Jesus Cross, Sagrada Familia and Google’s new headquarters in London.
The first ideas for Vertical Meadow came back in 2012 whilst growing plants on my balcony in Paris and reflecting on the living wall systems starting to crop up across our cities. Existing solutions struck me as being overly complicated, expensive, and working against the principles of nature. I started developing an idea for a new concept which radically rethought how living walls were engineered and delivered. Something based on existing construction principles, and growing biodiverse plant species from seed in place, thereby removing the cost, carbon emissions and logistical challenges associated with growing plants in greenhouses and delivering them to site.
10 years on from that first moment of inspiration, our living walls are now in place up and down the country for some of the largest building developers, and we’ve even introduced the Queen to our work at Chelsea Flower Show
Our values are simple - to work with nature, to minimise our environmental footprint and to deliver exceptional service to our customers - and we live them in everything we do. We’re excited to continue our mission to bring biodiversity into urban spaces, making construction greener and our cities more liveable. We’d be thrilled for you to join us.
